RUSSIA SAYS S-500 CAN TAKE DOWN US STEALTH JETS F-22, F-35, AND B-21 — DOUBTS GROW OVER CLAIMS .
Russian officials say their next-generation S-500 Prometey air defense system can track and destr0y U.S. stealth platforms like the F-22 Raptor, F-35 Lightning II, and even the upcoming B-21 Raider bomber.
On paper, the S-500 is designed to intercept everything from hypersonic missiles to low-orbit satellites at extreme ranges—reportedly up to 370 miles.
Stealth jets are built to do one thing extremely well: avoid being targeted. Aircraft like the F-22 and F-35 are engineered to minimize their radar signature and disrupt the high-frequency tracking systems needed to guide missiles.

Even if a radar briefly detects them, maintaining a stable, “weap0ns-quality lock” is a whole different challenge.
Without that precise lock, even the most advanced missile systems struggle to hit their target.
That said, the S-500 isn’t just about one-on-one engagements. It’s part of a bigger strategy. Russia aims to integrate it with existing S-400 systems to create a layered air defense network—making entire regions harder for enemy aircraft to operate in.
Still, there’s one key reality:
Most of these capabilities exist more in theory and simulations than in real-world combat.
Until systems like the S-500 are tested against true peer adversaries and modern stealth aircraft, their actual effectiveness remains an open question.
